Science City Saturday STEM Seminar: Why Seeing Is Believing
February 2, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am
FreeDuring Saturday STEM Seminars at Science City, STEM professionals present highlights about their careers and hot topics in STEM, followed by a Q&A session. The sessions, with take place at the Extreme Screen, are geared for students in grades 7-12.
In this session, Sue Jasperson, Ph.D., Associate Investigator for the Stower Institute for Medical Research, will consider why seeing is believing in science. Humans are visual-centric species, so it should not be a surprise that an important part of science and medicine is to “see” the cells and parts of cells that make us up. How can we see things that are picometers to micrometers in size? Come hear how monks, chemist, world wars, jellyfish and more have allowed cell biologists and pathologists to “see” through the lens of microscope exquisite features of healthy and diseased cells.
Preregistration is not required; sign in on site.
