KC STEM Alliance is rolling out a new way to manage volunteer opportunities across our programs. This update is designed to make volunteering easier for you – and to help us better support and celebrate the incredible community that makes our work possible.
If you’ve volunteered with us before, your existing information has already been migrated into the new system. We’re asking all volunteers to take a few minutes to log in, review their profile, and make sure everything is up to date.
This page explains what’s changing, why we’re making this update, and what (if anything) you need to do next, especially if you volunteer with programs like FIRST or PLTW.

What is the new volunteer management system all about?
KC STEM Alliance is implementing a new volunteer management platform called CERVIS. If you’ve volunteered with other nonprofits in the Kansas City area, this system may feel familiar. We selected CERVIS because it’s widely used and designed to be simple and user-friendly.
Why is KC STEM Alliance making this change?
This platform gives volunteers more visibility, flexibility, and choice. Through CERVIS, you’ll be able to:

See options for workplace or group volunteering
It also helps us better measure and share the impact of STEM engagement across the region.
What information is collected, and why?
We collect a small amount of information to make volunteering smooth, safe, and meaningful.
Phone Number

Used only to contact you if an event is rescheduled or impacted by weather or emergencies

Helps with quick and easy event check-in

Your phone number is never used for marketing or shared with third parties
T-Shirt Size & Food Allergies

What do I need to do now?
We recommend logging in and completing your profile before February 2. Doing this ahead of time will make future sign-ups quick and easy. While you’re there, feel free to explore current volunteer opportunities.
Can I do this later?
Yes. You’ll just need to complete your profile before signing up for a volunteer opportunity.
Can I edit my profile after I complete it?
Absolutely. You can update your profile information at any time.
I’m a FIRST volunteer. Will I still be contacted by a volunteer coordinator?
Yes. Using the KC STEM Alliance platform allows us to notify you when FIRST volunteer opportunities open, but you’ll still hear from volunteer coordinators as usual.
If I’m a FIRST volunteer, can I skip the KC STEM Alliance platform?
Yes, you can. That said, having your information in our system helps us better understand our volunteer community and allows us to invite you to volunteer appreciation events and share updates. In short—we just want to stay connected.
If I judge for the annual PLTW Senior Showcase, do I still need to register in ZFairs?
Yes. ZFairs is still required, as that’s where all judging materials and projects are managed.
If I judge for the annual PLTW Senior Showcase, can I skip the KC STEM Alliance platform?
Yes, you can. However, registering with KC STEM Alliance helps us recognize your contributions, invite you to appreciation events, and say thank you for your time and expertise.
What if I don’t see my question here?
Absolutely. You can update your profile information at any time.
