Science Happy Hour- A Whirling Demon: Jackie Robinson Steals Home and History
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Jackie Robinson (1919-1972), the legendary athlete who helped integrate American Baseball in 1947. During this Museum at Prairiefire Science Happy Hour, Dr. Raymond Doswell of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum will highlight Robinson’s unique life history and his ties to the Missouri/Kansas region.
The primary focus will be Robinson’s uncanny abilities as a base stealer, especially in stealing home plate. Stealing home in baseball is among the most aggressive offensive players in the game. His success demonstrated his great athletic ability and represented a form of protest or dissent against racism. Science Happy Hours are adult programs, but children are always welcome!
