They tackled cancer, Alzheimer’s and the distribution of Lyme disease in Johnson County.
Research and experiments took months. But that, along with their love of science and the chance to put formulas and all the knowledge from their teachers to test, paid off for the three area high school students.
On Saturday, in a packed Bartle Hall room, they became this year’s Grand Award winners in the Greater Kansas City Science and Engineering Fair. They are Olathe North High freshman Disha Dasgupta and Shawnee Mission West High seniors Christon Petersen and Nathan Witters. Fair participants came from more than 100 schools in 20 districts across the metropolitan area.
