Science City’s Saturday STEM Seminar: Kansas City as a Smart City
November 18, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am
FreeGeared for students in grades 7-12, this free series features STEM professionals sharing information about their careers and hot topics in science, technology, engineering and math, followed by a Q&A session. This session is presented by Blake Miller, Partner, Think Big Partners:
In 2016, the Smart City Initiative was launched as a collaboration between Kansas City, Cisco, Sprint, and Think Big Partners. This initiative has established 328 WiFi access points, 178 smart lighting video nodes, and 25 smart kiosks, making downtown Kansas City a “hotbed of sensor networks and WiFi connectivity.” Join us to learn about the rapidly increasing technology in Kansas City and how the Living Lab is creating an opportunity for entrepreneurs to build high growth companies and partner with larger companies. Improving the quality of life and reducing long-term costs, technology gives KCMO the ability to reap both the financial and social benefits of being a Smart City.
