Saturday STEM Seminar: A Passionate Uruguayan Making Science in All the World

FreeDuring Science City’s Saturday STEM Seminars, STEM professionals present hot topics in science, technology, engineering and math as well as highlights of their education and career paths. A Q&A session follows. The seminars, geared toward students in grades 7-12, are open to the public. Registration is required, but walk-ups are welcome!
In this session, Dr. Anabel Martinez Bengoche shares her science story, which began when she was 7 years old and spending time on her grandparents’ summer farm in Uruguay. Today she’s a versatile researcher in the field of molecular biology, specializing in the development of new methodologies. With a PhD from Brazil, an MSc, and a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Uruguay, South America, she has contributed to many different scientific fields. Her current work at Children’s Mercy Research focuses on developing tools to help detect genetic rare variants that can lead to disease in children.
