Registration Deadline: November 4 (limit 18 students, first come first serve)

This camp will meet for six hours and will be limited to 18 students (6:1 student to teacher ratio). During camp, which is a key fund raiser for the Shawnee Mission South Robotics team, day campers will:

·       Learn how to break a complex problem into small manageable parts.

·       Organize simple tasks to create more complex behaviors.

·       Evaluate results and fix bugs.

·       Build the critical thinking skills that children need to be successful in any endeavor.

·       Have fun and build a ROBOT!!

The day combines LEGO building, computer programming, design, team work and problem-solving skills in a fun and challenging environment.  The day camp is specifically designed for younger students interested in exploring robotics using the Lego NXT systems from Lego Education.

This camp gives kids in 4th and 5th grade the opportunity to explore engineering, math and science. The process of creating autonomous machines that complete useful tasks is what makes LEGO robotics so much fun!

The Shawnee Mission South high school robotics team (with adult mentor) will guide students as they build and test their LEGO robots and learn valuable engineering principles along the way.  Students will work in teams.

Cost: $50, including lunch (checks made out to Shawnee Mission South)
