Powell Gardens’ Family Frolic: Backyard Bugging
May 11, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
Dig in dirt, sift through pond sludge and chase down aerial insects in search of some of the most unique invertebrates found in Missouri during this family event. Missouri Master Naturalists will guide guests in their search and teach kids how to safely handle the insects. Free hands-on activities for kids include designing insect-themed clothespins to clip onto bags and backpacks, trying tasty edible insects, playing good bug/bad bug yard games and participating in an insect collection workshop.
To tie into the summer exhibit, Nature Connects: Art with LEGO Bricks, kids can watch a LEGO Master Builder construct a larger-than-life model of a rarely seen but abundant insect, and families won’t want to miss the StoneLion Puppet Theatre perform its “backyard buggin” show.
