Maker InspirED at Maker Faire Kansas City

June 22, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Educators: Come see where STEM and Maker Education collide at Maker InspirED, sponsored by Cerner. The session will start with a networking and activity brainstorming opportunity with fellow maker educators.  Share your favorite activities and learn about what other educators are doing in their classrooms or makerspaces. Light snacks will be provided.

The professional development session that follows features special guest Steve Wolf; a Hollywood stunt- and special-effects coordinator and an educator who makes science exciting.

Motorcycle jumps require a basic understanding of trajectory. A child can understand the physics behind pulleys used to hoist Spider-Man or the chemistry of explosions used to destroy the bad guys—and Wolf makes it easy and fun. He visits schools to teach the science behind stunts and special effects and lets students lift their teachers with pulleys to add hands-on activities to enhance their understanding of basic principles they need to master science and to score well on their standardized tests.

Get hands-on and learn how to make materials to teach these topics in your own classroom, including making an air cannon. Each educator will go home with ready-to-implement curriculum and receive a gift pack with Steve Wolf’s activity guide for stunt science activities.
