Over the last three years, Geeks for Kids has built 31 custom, electric cars for kids with movement disabilities. Bringing together professional and student engineers and programmers to design and build the cars, Geeks for Kids empowers kids with movement disabilities to get out and explore their world on their own.
Studies show that kids who cannot explore on their own fail to develop intellectually, as well as physically. On High-Tech Build Days, participants create the tech that will soon get kids moving. Put together wiring harnesses. Build custom drive systems that make it possible for kids to drive using only their hands, or their feet, or just with a flick of the finger or the press of a cheek. Modify steering assemblies and ready safety systems for installation. Write and test software that allows some of the cars to be driven by remote control and other specialty functions.
It’s free to participate. Register here two days in advance of each session.
