Future demand for STEM jobs is staggering. Employment in occupations related to STEM—science, technology, engineering, and mathematics—is projected to grow to more than 9 million by 2022, an increase of more than 1 million jobs in just 10 years.

Kansas City’s STEM Needs

According to KC SourceLink, nearly 7,700 STEM jobs were posted in 2015. Companies in the metro area, however, were able to only hire about 2,550 candidates. That’s not a good trend, as STEM job openings in the metro area have increased 63 percent since 2013, while hires have only increased about 15 percent during the same period.
