Coding & Cupcakes: Jewelbots Workshop
October 12, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Join this monthly coding series where parents and daughters learn about code and bond while working on programming projects together. The mission? To get girls excited about code at a young age and to dispel any notion that coding isn’t for girls.
In this workshop attendees will learn to program robotic bracelets called Jewelbots using C++ and the Arduino IDE. Jewelbots are Bluetooth-enabled smart bracelets and are the first developed social coding toy. C++ is a high-level programming language that is now used to write applications for nearly every available platform. Arduino IDE (Integrated Development Environment) is a cross-platform application that is used to write and upload programs (code) to Arduino compatible boards (example: the Jewelbot).
The Jewelbot is connected to a computer via a USB port, where it ‘talks’ with the Arduino IDE. The user writes the code in the Arduino IDE that will tell the Jewelbot what to do (example: flash yellow, flash blue, flash red and finally buzz), the finished code then gets uploaded to the Jewelbot which either executes the code immediately or only when certain variables are met.
Didn’t quite follow that breakdown? That’s what this workshop is for! Lots of guidance and support for those with little to no coding experience is available.
