Technology Student Association’s TEAMS competition offers discounts to PLTW schools

The Technology Student Association’s TEAMS competition kicks off in mid-February. This overview provided by Project Lead The Way has all of the details (plus a discount code for PLTW schools!):

Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics, and Science (TEAMS) is an annual competition for middle and high school students designed to help them discover their potential for engineering. During this one-day competition, students apply math and science knowledge in practical, creative ways to solve real-world engineering challenges. This three-part competition includes:

Design/Build – Teams design and build a solution to an engineering challenge.

Multiple Choice – Teams use math and science skills to solve real-world engineering challenges.

Essay – Teams research and write an in-depth essay submitted electronically prior to their competition day.

When? The 2019 TEAMS local and state competitions take place at various times between Feb. 13-March 17. Teams that place in the top three during the state-level competitions and teams that achieve a minimum score at the state level are invited to compete in the national TEAMS competitions held during the national TSA conference June 28-July 2, 2019, at National Harbor near Washington, D.C.

Where? The TEAMS competition takes place at different sites in local communities across the country. Most often, colleges, universities, and professional organizations conduct the local competition and serve as the “host.” Hosts allow for area schools/groups to travel to a pre-determined and convenient location at which multiple teams can compete against each other. Who? Middle school and high school students can compete. PLTW schools receive a 30 percent discount off the TEAMS national registration fee of $150 per team when teachers use the code “2019PLTW” to register.
