KCPS girls explore aviation with Garmin

There’s no better way to spark curiosity about STEM jobs in the aviation field than a visit to Garmin, based on the reaction of the 23 middle school girls from Kansas City Public Schools who attended a recent Women in Aviation program.

Students started the day by building circuits, airplanes and helicopters. They had lunch with several women pilots and learned that, surprisingly, the minimum age to obtain a pilot’s license is 17. They also learned about women’s contributions to aviation throughout history. The highlight of the day for many was experiencing the flight simulator, complete with instrument panel, with several successful landings.

Thanks to all of the Garmin team who took time to provide tours, answer questions and lead programs.
