The KC STEM Alliance team is growing! We’re looking for three consultants to help support our work, including event and communications/marketing support plus a STEM Outreach Consultant focused specifically on our work with Project Lead The Way. STEM Outreach Consultant

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
The primary role of the STEM Outreach Consultant is to provide support to the KC STEM Alliance and its associated initiatives, specifically Project Lead The Way,  in preparing more students for college and careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM.)   As an independent initiative of the UMKC School of Science and Engineering, the vision of the KC STEM Alliance is to see that a diverse, innovative and sustainable workforce becomes a reality.  The STEM Outreach Consultant works with PK-12 administrators & educators, area employers, post-secondary partners and other STEM non-profit organizations to identify & create opportunities for students and manage collaborative efforts.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES

•  Represent the KC STEM Alliance with local, regional and national STEM organizations including Project Lead the Way (PLTW).
•  Manage and coordinate advisory committees such as the PLTW Coordinators Committee.
•  Coordinate events including the PLTW Senior Showcase, annual professional development conferences for teachers and other special events as assigned.
•  Coordinate efforts with the KC STEM Alliance communications director about ongoing communications efforts including newsletters, social media and the KC STEM Alliance website.
•  Develop and cultivate relationships with government, education, professional organizations and industry leaders to encourage their involvement in STEM programs including PLTW Engineering, PLTW Computer Science, PLTW Biomedical Sciences and FIRST Robotics.
•  Manage projects including coordinating data collection and program evaluation efforts in coordination with designated program evaluators and KC STEM Alliance staff.
•  Identify and execute strategies to increase the number of under-served students including females as participants in STEM programs.
•  Cultivate strategic partnerships with community and advocacy organizations to establish and support new and existing extracurricular STEM enrichment initiatives, including summer camps and internships.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
General supervision is received from the Director of the KC STEM Alliance.

QUALIFICATIONS
•  Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling or related fields or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary.
•  Master’s degree preferred.
•  At least three years experience in project management or in an educational or related not-for-profit or industry setting developing programs and working with diverse populations.

COMPENSATION
$35-40/hour for @ 30 hours/week for 1600 hours/year
plus $5,000 travel stipend

Event Support Consultant

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
The primary role of the Event Support Consultant is to provide support to the KC STEM Alliance and its associated initiatives in preparing more students for college and careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM.)   As an independent initiative of the UMKC School of Science and Engineering, the vision of the KC STEM Alliance is to see that a diverse, innovative and sustainable workforce becomes a reality.  The Event Support Consultant works in partnership with the STEM Outreach consultant and the Director of Operations to support educational events for students, educators and the community-at-large.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES

•  Provide a range of coordination activities for all PLTW events (primarily) and FIRST events (secondarily)

•  Follow-up with teachers and key stakeholders on communications in partnership with STEM Outreach Consultant

•  Assist with gathering data and information for events

•  Assist with venue identification, food/drink and supply purchases as needed

•  Create signage, print and prep as needed

•  Assist with set-up/tear-down of events

•  Print materials, assemble packets and supplies for meetings

•  Assist at all meetings/events with welcoming guests; registration and on-site help

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
General supervision is received from the STEM Outreach consultant and the Operations Director of the KC STEM Alliance.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree OR an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary.

COMPENSATION
$30/hour for 1000 hours/year (@ 20 hours/week)

Marketing Assistant Consultant

The primary role of the Marketing Assistant consultant is to provide support to the KC STEM Alliance and its associated initiatives in preparing more students for college and careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM.)   As an independent initiative of the UMKC School of Science and Engineering, the vision of the KC STEM Alliance is to see that a diverse, innovative and sustainable workforce becomes a reality.  The Marketing Assistant works with the Marketing Director to communicate, connect and celebrate the initiatives of the KC STEM Alliance and broader STEM Learning Ecosystem called STEM Connect-KC..

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES

•  Monitor social media accounts, create content and respond to messages

•  Edit, manage content on websites (KC STEM and KC FIRST) under the direction of the Marketing
Director

•  Manage and update STEM Connect-KC provider directory and event calendar

•  Assist with promoting events hosted by the KC STEM Alliance

•  Attend events as needed to assist with photography, videography contractors and news media

•  Contribute ideas to marketing campaigns

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
General supervision is received from the Marketing Director of the KC STEM Alliance.

QUALFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, public relations OR an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary.

COMPENSATION
$22/hour for 1000 hours/year (@ 20 hours/week)
