Women remain drastically under-represented in the fields related to science, technology, engineering and math. KC STEM Alliance and our partners across the metro work intentionally to change these numbers by providing encouragement, role models and hands-on STEM experiences for female students.

Closing the Gap: How to bridge the STEM gender gap in K-12

In summer of 2020, the KC STEM Alliance presented a five-part series of conversations to explore the ways our region is moving to close the gender gap in STEM. Moderated by Dr. Margery Sendze, the interactive series looks at key influences and success stories at each stage of STEM education—from kindergarten through high school. Panelists include community and corporate partners, mentors, parents, teachers, students and women with STEM careers.

Adults: You make a difference

Encouraging girls to pursue STEM empowers them to change the world! Whether you’re family, an educator or a STEM professional, you can make a difference in how STEM opportunities are perceived.

Volunteer

Share your career experiences as a STEM professional, lend a hand at a STEM event or sign up for a more in-depth mentoring opportunity.

Mentor

Mentors matter: KC STEM Alliance needs mentors to help students with projects, to work with high school girls and for FIRST robotics teams. Contact us to find out where you can make a difference.

Connect girls with opportunities

Girls who are encouraged by parents and teachers to explore STEM are more likely to enroll in related coursework. Help the girls in your life engage with STEM by searching for organizations with programs that cater to girls or by searching the Event Calendar for specific opportunities.
