Ryder Hesjedal — and Garmin’s fitness division — ended up in the winner’s circle over the weekend.

Hesjedal, 31, part of the Garmin-Barracuda cycling team, on Sunday won the 2012 Giro d’Italia, one of the three biggest cycling races in the world. It was the best finish ever for Garmin, the Olathe GPS-device maker, which started sponsoring the professional cycling team four years ago. Hesjedal is also the first Canadian to win one of the majors, the others being the Tour de France and Spain’s Vuelta de Espana.
