Saturday STEM Seminar: Can Mini Brains in a Dish Model Alzheimer’s Disease?
October 12 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am
FreeDuring Science City’s Saturday STEM Seminars, STEM professionals present hot topics in science, technology, engineering and math as well as highlights of their education and career paths. A Q&A session follows. The seminars, geared toward students in grades 7-12, are open to the public. Registration is required, but walk-ups are welcome!
In this session, Dr. Heather Wilkins will discuss how mini brains are developed in the lab and how they could give us clues to what drives Alzheimer’s Disease. Dr. Wilkins attended Kansas State University where she earned her Bachelor of Science. She then completed her PhD training at the University of Denver in 2013. Dr. Wilkins joined the KU Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center as a postdoctoral fellow in August 2013 and joined the faculty in 2019.
