Dan Anderson Named High School Principal of the Year

The Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP) has selected Dan Anderson, principal at Blue Springs Freshman Center, as the 2012 Missouri High School Principal of the Year. MASSP will officially present the award during the annual MASSP Spring Conference at the Lodge of Four Seasons, Lake Ozark, Mo., on Monday, March 26, 2012. Mr. Anderson was awarded the recognition based on his impact in the areas of collaborative leadership; curriculum, instruction and assessment; and his personalization of the learning environment. Blue Springs Assistant Superintendent Jim Finley said of Dan, “He leads in a unique setting housing approximately 1,200 freshmen, one that has thrived and prospered under that leadership. Dan has a thorough understanding of organizations and how to move them in a positive direction.”
Jennifer Casey, Blue Springs School District Board of Education Member, said, “As a parent, I appreciate Dan’s talents and skills to ensure that the students are challenged on an academic level while also preparing them socially and emotionally for the rigors of the remainder of their higher education career.”
Mr. Anderson served as assistant principal and then associate principal at Blue Springs South High School, at Blue Springs Freshman Center, and at Blue Springs High School (2000-2005) and was named principal at Blue Springs Freshman Center in 2005. He was recently named District Director of Buildings and Grounds. He received a Bachelor of Science (1986) at Northwest Missouri State University, Master of Science in Secondary Administration (1993) from Northwest Missouri State University and Education Specialist (2004) at Central Missouri State University. MASSP sponsors the High School and Middle School Principal of the Year Programs. Mr. Anderson will represent Missouri in the MetLife National Association of Secondary School Principals’ High School Principal of the Year program.
