Burns & McDonnell will sponsor a second Battle of the Brains competition for science students this fall, Union Station officials said Friday.

The first competition, in 2011, was hugely successful, drawing 560 entries from 456 teams of 2,500 individual students from 128 schools in 35 area districts.

The engineering firm will provide $150,000 in grants for science programs at the schools of the finalists, said Jerry Baber, chief financial officer for Union Station and Science City.

“We’re ecstatic that Burns & McDonnell chose to partner with us again,” he said.

Details of the second competition will be announced before the fall semester.
