Seven events across Kansas City support initiative to encourage KC girls to explore opportunities in tech during Computer Sci Ed Week
WHO: Close to 450 Kansas City metro area girls will participate in Girls in Tech KC events during Computer Science Education Week, December 4-10, 2017, at a variety of corporate locations. Students will team up with female mentors from each location to explore computer science and demonstrate the Hour of Code.
WHAT: Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics. This global movement aims to reach tens of millions of students in 180+ countries. Tutorials are available in more than 45 languages with themes including Minecraft, Star Wars, Google Doodles and more. Learn more at code.org and hourofcode.com. The Cerner events will include a more in-depth activity involving code for website development.

9:30-11:30 am, Cerner Headquarters, 2800 Rockcreek Parkway, North Kansas City, Mo., with 60 girls from Kansas City Missouri Public Schools.
11:30 am–1:30 pm, DST Systems, 210 W. 10th St., Kansas City, Mo., with 50 girls from Kansas City Missouri Public Schools and Crossroads Academy.
Tuesday, December 5
9:30–11:30 am, Commerce Bank, 1000 Walnut St., Kansas City, Mo., with 100 girls from North Kansas City school district.
12:00-1:30 p.m., KC Engineering Zone, 4825 Troost, Room 108, Kansas City, Mo., with 25 students from Grandview School District and alums from UMKC’s School of Computing & Engineering.
Wednesday, December 6
9:30–11:30 am, Cerner Innovations Campus, 8779 Hillcrest Rd., Kansas City, Mo., with 50 girls from the Hickman Mills School District.
Thursday, December 7
8:45–11 am, Federal Reserve Bank, 1 Memorial Drive, Kansas City, Mo., with 100 girls from Independence School District.
9–11 am, Cerner Continuous Campus, 10200 Abilities Way, Kansas City, Kan., with 60 girls from Kansas City Kansas Public Schools.
