Whirlwind: Art in Motion | Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens

April 21, 2018 - September 30, 2019

This exhibition of kinetic sculptures at the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens showcases the convergence of art and science as each sculpture changes with light and wind. The exhibit opens April 21 and will be open daily through Sept. 30, 2019. The Arboretum is open seven days a week.  Oct. 1-April 9: 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; April 10-Sept. 30: 8 a.m.-7:30 p.m.

A kinetic art symposium will coincide with the opening day of the exhibition. Speakers will cover the history of kinetic art, kinetic sculpture today, and how art and science combine in the construction of kinetic art. The session will conclude with a roundtable discussion featuring the “Whirlwind” sculptors.

Registration includes continental breakfast, the symposium, an optional guided tour of The Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, and an invitation to the grand opening ceremony at the Arboretum with the artists available to discuss their work in person. Admission to the Arboretum is free that afternoon. No tickets will be mailed. Check in upon arrival at the Nerman Museum. Seating is limit. Reduced registration fee for students and educators.
